I went dancing this morning at 7 a.m. At a club. Downtown.
For the past several months, I have heard about a group called Daybreakers. This group encourages people to get up at the break of dawn once a month to begin the day with energy and intention. Come one, come all. Dance with abandon. Be happy. Let go. These were the messages that the DJ and organizer were shouting from the stage as approximately 100 people started their day at the Concourse in Philadelphia dancing together this morning. There was a woman dancing with her baby in the baby pouch; there was an white-haired couple lovingly sharing their connection while dancing; there were people in space suits honoring the suggested “space” theme.
Each Daybreaker ends with a song that contains the verse, “When I am dancing, I am free”. Those words have never rang true more than today. Maybe it was the opportunity to ride in town early with a friend. Maybe it was the picture perfect weather today and one of the most gorgeous sunsets to end the day that I have ever seen. But, certainly, the resistance that I was feeling to go try something new, something so different, something that seemed a little strange, and definitely out of my comfort zone, was surprisingly one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The smile on my face that began on the dance floor has lasted with me well into the evening.
When will you go dancing at 7 a.m.?
